Spring into Action LLC ("Spring") is a new and innovative social business that is pioneering a responsible mattress recycling solution in the tri-state area. Founded in 2009, Spring into Action takes a triple bottom line approach to business: people, planet and profits, in that order.
Spring’s primary purpose is to create jobs for people facing barriers to employment, and facilitate reintegration into the private sector. Working closely with The Osborne Association, one of the oldest and most respected nonprofits working to help the formerly incarcerated transform their lives, Spring provides living wage jobs with benefits to people who have had trouble with the law but are looking to turn around their lives. Statistics show that employment is by far the most important factor in preventing recidivism.
Spring’s business, mattress recycling, provides a green waste management solution for our customers by diverting bulky yet 90% recyclable mattresses from landfills. Mattresses are collected from aggregators, such as retailers, hotels, hospitals, and universities, and deconstructed into their component parts. Those parts are then resold to recyclers and manufacturers. Steel, foam, cotton, wood and other components can all be readily reused and are in demand. Landfilling mattresses is a poor use of finite natural resources and creates unnecessary waste and emissions.
