Sustainability is a natural extension of a hospital's core mission, and leaders in the industry are implementing increasingly progressive environmental initiatives. That's because in making environmentally responsible decisions these institutions can not only minimize their impact on the environment, but also better support the well-being of their patients, employees, and communities.
Spring Into Action is a new social enterprise that partners with hospitals and nursing homes in the greater New York City area to recycle used mattresses locally. At our South Bronx warehouse, we manually disassemble mattresses, and resell (or give away) the components to be processed into new products. In doing so, we can recycle over 90% of each mattress, and create green-collar jobs (with health benefits) for people in our community who desperately need them.

Mattress recycling is important for the environment. There are over 100,000 hospital and nursing home mattresses within the greater New York City area alone.
