Any sleep-deprived college student will tell you how important a good mattress is in getting a good night’s rest -- but what if a mattress could continue to have an impact even after it is disposed of? With Spring Into Action it can.
As cultivators and early-adopters of innovations, colleges and universities are leaders in environmental stewardship and community renewal. However, with few responsible disposal options, colleges and universities in the tri-state area have been forced to send too many dorm room mattresses to landfills. That is, until now.
Spring Into Action is a new social enterprise that partners with colleges and universities in the greater New York City area to recycle used mattresses locally. At our South Bronx warehouse, we manually disassemble mattresses, and resell (or give away) the components to be processed into new products. In doing so, we can recycle over 90% of each mattress, and create green-collar jobs for people in our community who desperately need them.
