We are working hard to develop an efficient system for collecting mattresses from your home. In the meantime, we will happily accept your old mattresses and box springs once our facility is open (expected January 2011) for a $15 per unit fee. You will just need to call us to schedule a drop-off date/time.
Currently none of the retailers in the tri-state area recycle your old mattress responsibly. We are working hard to change this. When purchasing your next mattress, be sure to let your retailer know this is important to you!
If you know of mattress retailers, hotels, universities, hospitals, or nursing homes in the area that need to get rid of a number of mattresses, please let us know!
Two laws are important for us and for this area: The first is to prevent mattresses and box springs from going to landfills or waste-to-energy facilities. These facilities don’t like mattresses, and would prefer to not accept them. What's more, this legislation would make it possible for more than 40,000 tons of steel, foam, wood, cotton, and other fibers to be recycled in the tri-state area every year.
The second important piece of legislation would be to tighten controls on the sale of used bedding. Right now, 25% of bedding sold as “new” is in fact used. With the bed bug crisis in this area, we can’t afford to let this unregulated industry continue as it is now. We need to prevent unsanitary, bed bug infested mattresses from entering the marketplace, by either enforcing stricter regulations on the sale of used mattresses or by forbidding this practice completely.
